James was wounded in his left knee by an artillery shell 17/8/1916. He had been living with his older brothers John, Thomas, William, Richard and Bert and his younger brother Stanley, at Chingford Rd. Walthamstow. Stanley Furze died of sickness whilst on active service and is commemorated with his brother on the Chingford War Memorial, and he also has his own page on this site.
